SCCMC striving to be the best education institution in and around south Bangalore is committed to improve skills of the students. A proposal to establish Silicon City Computer Academy was prepared and submitted to the Management by the Principal Prof. Raghu V., with the approval of Chairman Silicon City Computer Academy (SCCA) it was established in the year 2018. It was inaugurated by Dr. K.S Sameera Simha, Academic chairman and Sri Ravi L., Secretary SCEA. The management recognized the need for technical skill which is important for commerce and management students to get placed in reputed companies after their graduation. Further it was envisaged to nurture innovative ideas of students through computer applications.

To facilitate better understanding of concepts, methods and applications of database management and analysis.

Value Added Course

SCCMC believes in adding values to the service it provides. The core area is teaching the syllabus prescribed by the university. However, the team believes that certain Value Based Education (VBE) is necessary to make a difference.

Therefore ethics, morality and general principles and skills of life are taught. Further, the value addition is ensured by teaching them basic and few advanced computer skills. Many students, from rural background, wouldn’t even have seen a computer, for them, our computer lab, as part of VBE provides a friendly learning experience. Semester wise computer literacy is imparted culminating with Tally ERP 9 GST and Advanced Excel Certificate courses. Official trainers from Tally Pvt. Ltd. train our students and conduct online exams at the end of the course.

  1. Basic Computer Application KSHIPRA: Basic course covering all the knowledge and skill required to operate a computer is imparted in this 30 hours course. It is designed as an add on course from 2017, in the first semester or during the semester break.
    An in house faculty trains our students in this course, after which the outcomes are measured through projects, assignments and tests. Final exams will be conducted and thereafter certificate will be issued. Students’ attendance is monitored by the programme coordinator, periodically scrutinised by the principal. Students are encouraged to practice these skills whenever possible during their three years of programme in the college. It is also open for general public after the college working hours as an extended activity of the college under Silicon City Computer Academy.

  2. Certified course in Tally GST (2018 onward) An external industry expert trains our students in this course for 35 hours, after which the outcomes are measured by challenging the students with projects, assignments and mock tests. Final online exams will be conducted and thereafter certificates will be issued. Students’ attendance is monitored by the programme coordinator, periodically scrutinised by the principal.

  3. Certified course in Advanced Excel (2018 onward) This is a short term course offered as add on with Tally GST. An external industry expert trains our students in this course for 5 hours.
  4. Certified IIM-C Integrated course (2018 onward) External Industry expert will conduct this specialized course for 30 hours. Students are given on hand training during the course. Students’ attendance is monitored by the programme coordinator, periodically scrutinised by the principal. Students are encouraged to practice these skills in the computer lab whenever possible during their three years of programme in the college.

  5. Certified course in Key Board Proficiency (2022 onward) AVIGNA – a special introductory course on keyboards is designed for the students of SCCMC. The objective of the course is to make the students familiar with key boards of minimum three languages; one local, one national and one international language. Course is designed and executed by an in house staff. Office Typist, in service since sixteen years and proficiency level certified diploma holder Mrs. Lakshmi conducts the course for our students. It is also open for general public after the college working hours as an extended activity of the college under Silicon City Computer Academy. The courses offered:
    • Kannada computer keyboard Classes - 10 hours certified Kannada text composing classes through NUDI software. ( Software developed by Kannada Ganaka Parishat; GOK)
    • Sanskrit and Hindi computer keyboard Classes – 10 hrs certified Sanskrit and Hindi text composing through BRH software.
    • English Computer keyboard classes. – 10 hrs certified English text composing classes through Typing Master.
  6. Aptitude training (2019 onward) The career guidance and placement cell organises mathematical / reasoning aptitude test to all final year students. The test prepares students not only for campus recruitment but also polishes their skills for competitive exams.

Implementation

The Value added course will be conducted under the overall direction and supervision of the Principal executed through the coordinator of the course. The course will be taught for a total duration of 30 hrs. It shall be scheduled without affecting the schedule of main academic subjects. The course will be conducted in the computer lab based on the course curriculum plan with optimal utilisation of the existing computer lab facilities.

Students shall be divided into batches to provide hand-on coaching and to make the course learner centric.

The performance of the students will be evaluated based on class assignment, projects and attendance. Feedback on the course structure and utility will also be obtained from students and trainer faculty. Information about the course will be announced through circulars. Attendance of the students will be maintained and monitored by the course coordinator.

At the end of each course period a detailed report shall be filed by the coordinator.

Outcomes

  • Commerce and Management students realize importance of computer skills.
  • Students who were not even exposed to computers or keyboards; first generation learners learnt how to operate the computer system.
  • By the time they finished Fifth Sem/Sixth Sem they learnt using accounting software (Tally Prime, GST, MS office and Internet) and got exposed to advanced excel.
  • Students found it easy to face the interview with the new acquired computer skill.
  • Students got placed in companies based on the skills they acquired through the computer academy.
