LIBRARY OVERVIEW

Silicon City College Library was established in the year 2008 to cater to the needs of learning community and teaching fraternity of the institution. SCCMC college library has substantial number of books and it is as a knowledge center. The college is earnestly committed to enhance the quality of teaching and learning and the library functions as a major contributor to this process.

The college library has Reference section, periodical section, reprographic section, competitive exams book corner, technical section, display of new arrivals and so on.

The library serves as a central information center for students, staff and researchers. It offers an expansive collection from different genres; biographies self-help and personality development books and other subject related Reference books.

LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • A Non – transferable borrower’s card will be issued to every student at the beginning of the year, which must be surrendered at the end of the academic year.
  • Strict silence, cleanliness and decorum should be maintained inside the library.
  • Users are to sign in the library movement entry register.
  • Over coats, bags, etc.--- and similar personal belongings shall be deposited in the property counter located in the library premises.
  • Students may borrow 5 books at a time from the library.
  • SC / ST students may borrow 8 books at a time from the library.
  • Library premises are under CCTV surveillances.
  • Students should immediately report to the librarian of any damaged books when they come across any. If reported later, will be held responsible for the damage of the books and the cost of the books will be recovered from them.
  • Students may keep books for fourteen days from the date of issue. If the book is not returned on or before the due date a fine of 1.00 rupee per day will be levied.
  • Library will not be held responsible for any kind of loss/ damage of personal belongings.
  • “No-dues certificate” will be issued at the time of leaving the institution only on return of all the materials borrowed and payment of overdue charges made, if any.
  • No group discussions will be permitted inside the library.
  • Reference Books are not for issue.

Highlights of the library

  • Fully computerized and automated with a bar code system enabling easy and quick transactions.
  • Well, maintained and easily accessible copies of previous Question papers.
  • Library-a Resource centre; “Never say No To Know” Workshop by Librarian.
  • The Library also organises mini book exhibition in the college to encourage readers and to develop love and taste for books.
  • To motivate and encourage students to inculcate the habit of reading the college has instituted ‘NACHIKETHA' (Best User annual award) for a student in recognition for optimum use of the library resource.
  • Deposit scheme to allow students to borrow books for longer period during exams.
  • Separate SC/ST book bank.
  • Book kits containing essential textbooks are issued to students every year, reducing financial burden on students and ensuring that library borrowing cards are used for reference books and other reading materials.

  • To motivate and encourage students to inculcate the habit of reading the college has instituted ‘NACHIKETHA' (Best User) annual award' for a student in recognition for  optimum use of the library resource - Year 2022-23 goes to Syed Ateequr Rehman BBA Final year & Raghu T.H B.com Final Year

LIBRARY SERVICES AND FACILITIES OFFERED TO THE USERS

  • Reference Service: Reference materials are arranged Classification wise to help Students to refer the sources like books, Journal Articles, Dictionaries, Encyclopaedias, Biographies.
  • Circulation Service To borrow the study materials / books members have to submit membership ID and have to return the same before the prefixed due date. Any deviation of directions action as per the library rules and regulations.
  • Computer with Internet Service Computer with high-speed internet for the users is available in the library.
  • Question Papers Archive An archive section specially dedicated and containing question papers is made available in the library for the programmes offered in the college.

OPAC (Within the library)

The Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is offered to the students, faculty and library staff. The OPAC is accessible in the library premises. The system has a word-based search which helps the user to narrow down his search to cater to his specific needs. Users can search the reference materials based on Author, subject, and Title, Keywords. Book reservation facility is also provided to the users.
